Important Things to Know Before You Book a Family Vacation

Family Vacations – The cheapest is not always the best value for your money

Everyone loves to travel, and with a family we really want to know where to find the best value for our money.   The cheapest price is not always the best deal.  I have listed a few perks that can come in very handy for families and also save you more $$$ than you would have expected.

Travelling with Teens

Palace Resorts have a great offer for families so kids up to 17 years can stay for Free.  There must be 2 paying adults in the room but this is such a great saving. Many parents miss this option as the Adult fare can look higher but it really can work out lower than booking a cheaper resort.  These 5*resorts offer great service and facilities for their clients in both Mexico & Jamaica.  A New resort will be opening in the future for Punta Cana. There is also an added bonus of $1500 USD (7 night’s stay) resort credits per room.  There is a local tax of apx 16% payable on any amounts used but if you plan a swim with the dolphins or an excursion to one of Mexico’s attractions this can be a great saving.  Who would not want an 84% discount? This is such a great saving for families.  The Grand at Moon Palace Mexico has also recently been voted one of the best hotels in Mexico…It’s in the top 3. Plus, with a fantastic waterpark and kids/teens clubs, there’s plenty to keep the family entertained.

Family Cruising

Book your cruise early as the cheaper cabins can sell out.  This can be up to apx 2 years in advance.  You also have a larger selection of cabins available to pick from and most cruise lines will change your rates if a better price comes out before the balance payment date.  Most prices we see actually increase so by booking early you are securing that great rate. If you do not mind the location of your cabin there’s also options at various times where you can book a “Guaranteed” Cabin which means you are guaranteed a specific category but you cannot pick your cabin.  This can also be a great saving but if you are booking an Ocean view or Balcony for example you could be in an obstructed view or even have a smaller than average veranda.   A few cruise lines will also run a Canada at Parr offer occasionally which is a fantastic saving for us all in Canada to save on the exchange rate.

Single Parent Options

If you are a single parent traveler, there’s usually a few options available for single parents to avoid those added single supplements.  Not all resorts offer this option but it can help with your family vacation so you can still take advantage of a child rate.  Ask your agent to check the options available.

Limitless Resort Credits at Hard Rock Resorts

Hard Rock recently removed their resort credits of $1,500 USD and are now offering Limitless credits. The family can enjoy a number of activities or extras from Golf, Activities, Fine dining, Spa treatments and much more.  There is a 25% service charge but if you usually enjoy some of these extras it’s still a great saving.  These resorts can also be enjoyable for teens as they offer Sounds of your Stay, Music lab and more. The smaller children can also enjoy the wonderful kids club on site with Bob the Builder & Angelina Ballerina. Riviera Maya now also has a great water park plus their Woodward & Wrecktangle experience.  Child pricing for these resorts are often also very well priced.

Group Prices

If you like to travel as a group you may be able to benefit from extra savings and possibly some extra perks such as complimentary family seat selection.  Most groups need to be 5 rooms & 10 adults minimum to qualify.  Many resorts also offer complimentary spaces based on the number of rooms and adults.

Beaches Resorts

Beaches resorts can be found in Jamaica and the Turks & Caicos.  They can be a bit higher priced than other resorts but they have a no tipping policy. Once there you don’t need to keep fishing out those bills which can add up.   In Jamaica they also have their own Airport lounge for arrivals where you can have a snack and refreshments at no charge (including beer) before you depart for your resort transfer.  Beaches Resorts also include child care for babies by nannies for all ages, all day, every day. (certified by INA. International Nanny Association) It’s the perfect opportunity for parents to spend a few hours together and know the little ones are in great hands.  Their staff are also Autism certified through CATP which has been a great benefit to many parents.  Great water parks onsite for the kids too, plus so many inclusions from Xbox lounges, Banana boat rides, Scuba diving and more.  If you have not heard of Beaches resorts, they are the family option of Sandals.  One of the world’s best-known resorts.

Some of the promotions offered by the resorts are subject to availability and can change at any time.  More information can be provided on request.
